In addition to our clinical work, GreenField has been performing consulting services since our inception. We view this as being a vital part of our organization’s mission to promote health care quality and innovation.
What type of consulting do we do?- Health system leadership and strategy for quality improvement and system redesign
- Practice management consulting including operational management, financial management, staffing, workflow, information technology (IT) and more
- Comprehensive start-up assistance for physicians who are opening a new practice
- Ambulatory IT, including offering practice management and electronic health records via the internet in an application services provider (ASP) environment, which allows physicians a “turn-key” software solution at a very low initial cost
- Physical design of new or remodeled office space to maximize efficiency
- Presentations and keynote talks on a variety of topics related to medical practice performance improvement, health care quality, health policy, and information technology
What is our history?GreenField has been recognized both locally and nationally over these past four years for our drive to improve health care quality and our innovative medical practice redesign work. Our most notable citations are from US News & World Report, the National Committee on Quality Assurance, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Marketplace on National Public Radio, Medical Economics magazine, The Oregonian, and The Business Journal. Most recently, GreenField has been recognized by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation.
Our team members are regarded as national thought leaders and are called upon frequently for reference information on trends and cutting edge developments in health care. We serve on a number of local and national advisory committees focused on health care quality and the appropriate application of healthcare IT. For example, Dr. Kilo is the Co-Chair of the CMS-sponsored “Doctor Office Quality – Information Technology” (DOQ-IT) initiative being run in California by Lumetra, the state's CMS sponsored Quality Improvement Organization. GreenField team members are also called upon to speak in many different national venues.
We also work closely with several high tech companies that share our desire to improve the quality and value of healthcare.
Our Team of ConsultantsCharles M. Kilo, MD, MPH Chief Executive Officer, GreenField Health and The GreenField Group, Fellow, Institute for Healthcare Improvement
Dr. Kilo is the CEO of GreenField Health, a nationally recognized primary care practice, and The GreenField Group, a consulting company serving health care focused technology companies and clinical organizations interested in medical practice improvement and redesign. He is a Fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) where he was previously Vice President. At IHI, he developed and led the international Idealized Design of Clinical Office Practices initiative. This work sparked a national focus on medical practice performance improvement.
Dr. Kilo works regularly with IHI, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Board of Internal Medicine, and others on issues pertinent to healthcare quality and medical practice performance improvement. As a fellow of IHI, he helps guide their work on medical practice redesign and performance improvement.
He is on the Advisory Committee for the Association of American Medical College’s Institute for the Improvement of Clinical Care, the Technical Advisory Panel for Tennessee’s ARHQ funded grant on “State and Regional Demonstrations in Health Information Technology”, the Technical Advisory Committee for the National Committee on Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) physician recognition program called Physician Practice Connections, and the Executive Committee of the Oregon Health Care Quality Corporation, a non-profit organization promoting improvement in health care services in Oregon. He serves on the Board of Directors of Kryptiq Corporation, a provider of secure messaging and workflow software.
Dr. Kilo has recently published a book on the application of ambulatory information technology for medical practice transformation along with Dr. Mark Leavitt, Medical Director of HIMSS.
Jill K. Arena Chief Operations Officer, GreenField Health
Ms. Arena is the COO of GreenField Health and The GreenField Group where she leads both clinic and consulting operations. She has extensive experience in practice start-up and workflow improvement including the implementation and management of health information technologies such as the EHR. Over the past 15 years she has had primary responsible for starting more than 20 new clinics. She has introduced EHRs to each of these sites in addition to working with a broad range of consulting clients to implement complete clinical IT systems.
Prior to helping to found GreenField, Jill worked in various clinic operations positions and as a practice management consultant. She started her career as an accountant and subsequently spent five years as the Director of Physician Services for Providence Health System, where she directly oversaw the operations of fifteen clinics, and provided matrix management for eight others. She had overall managerial responsibility for all sites including management of risk contracts, budgeting and physician compensation systems.
David Shute, MD Medical Director, GreenField Health
Dr. Shute has deep experience in the quality improvement community via his role as Medical Director of Oregon’s CMS Peer Review Organization for the past seven years, and prior to that in his leadership role with a large, multi-specialty group in Portland. In addition to these roles, over the past three years he has been active with the Oregon Medical Association, the Oregon Health Policy Commission and the Oregon Health Information Infrastructure Workgroup. His work in spearheading both the Oregon Diabetes Collaborative and the CMS DOQ-IT program here in Oregon has made a tremendous positive impact for physicians and patients alike.
Suzanne Houck Affiliated Consultant
Suzanne Houck serves as President of Houck & Associates Inc, a leader in ambulatory care redesign and electronic health record consulting. She has national experience as an ambulatory care manager and nurse practitioner and is the author of What Works: Effective Tools & Case Studies To Improve Clinical Office Practice, the first comprehensive book on office practice redesign. Ms. Houck was recently selected by the American Academy of Family Practice to facilitate implementation of TransforMED, a national project to redesign the practice of Family Medicine. She has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University. She has presented at national conferences for the numerous healthcare organizations including the American Hospital Association, Medical Group Management Association, American Medical Group Association, the Department of Health & Human Services, Lumetra, and the Outpatient Care Institute. She formerly served as Chief Operating Officer of Critical Care Incorporated as well as health care consultant for KPMG Peat Marwick. She has served as an advisory board member for the American Accreditation Healthcare Commission.
