Michael Chen MD

Family Medicine | Eastside / Westside
Health Coordinator: Veronica Case

Practical and preventative medicine, along with continuity of care, are the foundation of Michael Chen’s practice philosophy. In 2003, he began an independent, high-touch primary care practice in Portland. This model, similar to GreenField’s, allowed him more quality time with his patients to educate as well as provide awareness and support through the sometimes challenging medical decision-making process.

Michael has extensive experience working with at-risk children. He has served as medical director for the Children's Center of Clackamas County (whose mission is to assess and support children who may be victims of abuse or neglect) and was the board chair for Family Stepping Stones (now part of LifeWorks Northwest, a local relief nursery in Gladstone that helps at-risk families and children).

Michael graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in 2000. He received his residency training in family medicine and was chief resident at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

A man of many talents and interests, Michael plays violin, guitar, mixes and records music, and has even starred in NBC’s hit drama ‘Grimm’ as a pensive detective. Other hobbies include computers, home renovation, cooking, grilling, hiking, and travel. Michael and his wife live in Southeast Portland with their two children.
